TIM GLEASON

Tim Gleason is a litigation lawyer at Dewart Gleason LLP. 

His expertise is eclectic. He has appeared in the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as in all levels of court in Ontario, on a wide range of civil, administrative, constitutional and labour matters. 

A lawyer’s lawyer, Tim’s practice touches all aspects of the legal profession. He defends lawyers in all types of practice, providing careful and thoughtful advice and representation, as well as appellate, repair and liability prevention assistance.  Tim also acts for the regulator of the legal profession, the Law Society Ontario, in administrative and civil proceedings. Tim represents lawyers and law firms in partnership disputes, including departures, dissolution and management. 

In addition to his professional liability and regulation practice, Tim advises and represents clients in employment matters, and he acts for parties in diverse litigation, including civil rights, defamation and commercial disputes. He has a special interest in equality and civil rights, and has taken on difficult challenges on behalf of marginalized groups and individuals. 

Tim is a senior member of the labour bar, recognized by his peers as a leading lawyer in the field. In his labour practice, Tim deals with all aspects of labour litigation and collective bargaining for trade unions. He has represented clients before courts and tribunals at every level, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and he has testified before the Finance Committee of Parliament. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, where he teaches advanced labour law. He is a past chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s Labour Relations and Employment Section and a former contributing editor of the text Ontario Labour Relations Board Law and Practice, 3rd ed. 

Tim is founder and captain of the DGLLP hockey team. He plays centre, shoots left, has a respectable wrist-shot and almost no penalty minutes. His favourite colour is orange and his favourite drink is calvados.
