Brett Hughes
Brett has a broad litigation practice focused on workers’ rights, professional liability, and professional regulation. He represents unions, employees, lawyers, and professional regulators in all manner of disputes. He often works on complex, high-stakes litigation, including interest arbitrations, policy grievances, insolvency proceedings, abuse of process claims, wrongful and constructive dismissals, and a variety of other matters.
Brett also provides strategic advice to clients to proactively protect their interests, including with respect to collective bargaining, legislative and regulatory changes, contract negotiations, and workplace investigations.
Brett joined Dewart Gleason in 2017 after serving as a law clerk to the judges of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. In law school, he was a caseworker at the Advocates for Injured Workers legal clinic, editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, and co-valedictorian of his graduating class. Before law school, he worked as an advisor in several federal government departments, including Global Affairs Canada.
